“Now he who received seed among the thorns is he who hears the word and the cares of this world and the deceitfulness of riches choke the word, and he becomes unfruitful.” Matt 13:22
Jesus said this parable of the sower which is well known to the Christian world in Matthew 13. But there are certain things in this parable which have gone unrecognized and have led the church to pay a deliberate price of disappointment with the Word of God. We blame God when we don’t see with our eyes the power of His Word. We murmur when we do the best in confessing the Word on and again and yet find it unproductive in our lives. I have seen some pastors make the congregation to confess God’s Word, but miss exhorting them about the essentials because of which the confession works. No wonder why Paul told Timothy to divide the Word correctly. We need to have a balanced approach to the Word of God. I see two things that literally choke God’s Word in the above verse: the cares of this world and the deceitfulness of riches.
We will begin to understand the hindrances in the light of God’s Word under these two categories.
